Flashes publishes short stories, non-fiction, flash fiction and poetry. Work in all genres will be considered. The emphasis is on original voice, innovative style, challenging plots and strong creativity.
Submissions must be attributed with your name or Nom de Plume. Work accepted for publication will be published to the Flashes website and promoted via our various social media channels.
Flashes is seeking previously unpublished work in the English language only. We do not accept translations. Work, self-published to personal blogs and noticeboards, will not be excluded. Submissions should be properly edited and submitted in manuscript format. Accepted file types are .doc or .docx. Other formats are not accepted.
Submissions should include:
- a cover letter including an author bio (up to 150 words). Please do not include your author bio in the actual manuscript, submit the bio as a separate document.
- The email header should contain the type of submission (Short Story, non-fiction, Flash or Poetry), the title of the piece and your surname.
- a recent photo to be used, if your submission has been accepted.
- a link to your website, if you want us to include it with your submission if it has been accepted.
Short stories and non-fiction can be up to 3,000 words and Flash fiction up to 1,000 words. Poetry can be of any length. Only submit one short story, one flash fiction piece or up to three poems (in a single, attached document) at a time.
All poetry should be aligned left and not use fancy formatting. Due to issues with publication.
Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please notify us immediately if the work is placed elsewhere.
Flashes reserves the right to edit submissions to meet editorial standards or request that you do so. You will be sent the edited version to review.
Flashes requires worldwide first publication rights. After publication, all rights revert to the author. However, please state that the work was first published on Flashes if republished elsewhere.
Flashes cannot offer payment for inclusion at this time.
Please send your manuscript, with the separate author’s bio, also attached as a document, to this email-address:
